SAN FRANCISCO HEADQUARTERS INTERNSHIPS
Currently there are two internship opportunities available:

  • Special Projects Volunteer-Intern
  • Social Media Volunteer-Intern

Position: Special Projects Volunteer-Intern

Global Service Corps is a non-profit volunteer service-learning organization that provides opportunities for adults to participate on community development projects in Tanzania, Cambodia, and Thailand. Participants live with a host family and work on environment, health, or education projects. The headquarters staff is responsible for recruiting and preparing participants to take part in the volunteer programs.

Volunteer-Internship Location: International Headquarters office in San Francisco, CA

Benefits of interning in the San Francisco headquarters office:  You will gain hands-on experience related to international non-profit management.  You will see the inner-workings, from the head quarter’s perspective of some of the programmatic and policy logistics involved in the day-to-day functioning of an international non-profit. Most interns are interested in international development, public and global health, cross-cultural understanding, environmental studies, and non-profit management.

Projects may include the following:
•Marketing and social networking: this includes blogs, newsletters, online marketing campaigns
•Publications/Program Material Development
•Web Development
•Database Administration
•Assist the Associate Director and Program Manager with  projects
•Initiate/respond to prospective and registered participant e-mails and phone calls
•Enter prospective and registered volunteer information in database and maintain filing system
•Assist in mailings to participants
•Assist in the administration of Tanzania, Cambodia, and Thailand projects
•Communicate with country staff as needed

Qualifications:
•PC computer skills: MS Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, (Photoshop a plus)
•Excellent writing skills: Previous experience editing and creating informational and promotional material
•Business skills: Basic business administration and office skills and have worked in an office setting for at least one year
•Good communication, customer service and public relations skills
•Demonstrated ability to think critically and take initiative where appropriate
•Social Networking know-how: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WordPress
•Web site development skills a plus
•Bachelor's degree minimum.

Hours and length of commitment:  Internships require a 520 hour minimum commitment.  You are expected to work 20 - 25 hours per week during normal business hours. You will have set hours to be determined and agreed upon at the commencement of the internship commitment.

Compensation: A living expense reimbursement of $200 - $250 per month in addition to limited local transportation reimbursement.  Additionally, a 50% discount on one of GSC's service-learning programs to Tanzania, Cambodia, or Thailand is available upon successful completion of the internship.

Position: Social Media Volunteer-Intern

• Maintain posting presence and monitor pages on facebook, youtube, flickr, twitter, etc.
• Post to new websites: social networking sites, travel sites, etc.
• Special projects relating to marketing, research projects, marketing campaigns, writing
• Assist in developing and preparing GSC's new website

Qualifications:
• PC computer skills: MS Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop, and  In-Design
• Must have excellent writing skills
• Business skills: Basic business administration and office skills, and have experience working in an office setting
• Understanding of Google Analytics
• Website development skills a plus

You are expected to work 20 - 30 hours per week during normal business hours; to be determined and agreed upon at commencement of the internship commitment. A five- to six-month commitment is required to meet the 520 hours.
