Position: Administrative/Business Volunteer-Intern
Global Service Corps (GSC) is a
non-profit organization that provides opportunities for adults to participate in
volunteer service-learning programs in Tanzania, Cambodia, and Thailand.
Participants are fully immersed in the culture and assist in a variety of environmental,
health, and educational projects. The headquarters staff is responsible for helping
interested volunteers find the right program for them and preparing registered
participants for their service projects abroad.

The
benefits of interning in the San
Francisco headquarters office:
Internships provide hands-on experience related to international
non-profit and business administration. Because
GSC is a small organization, you will have the opportunity to not only work
closely with the directors and staff but to also see the inner-workings of some
of the programmatic and policy logistics involved in the day-to-day functioning
of a global non-profit. GSC works closely with interns to help them to acquire
new skills while also utilizing the strengths and abilities that each person
brings. Most interns are interested in
international development, public and global health, cross-cultural understanding,
environmental studies, and non-profit management and administration.
Primary
Responsibilities:
- Web Administration
- Database Administration
- Marketing and Social Media
- Publications Development
- Assist the Executive Director and
Program Coordinator with special projects
- Respond to prospective and
registered participant e-mails
- Assist in the administration of
Tanzania, Cambodia, and Thailand projects
Qualifications:
- PC computer skills: MS Word,
Access, Excel, Outlook
- Good writing and communication skills
- Basic
business administration and office skills (At least one year of experience
working in an office setting is preferred)
- Good communication, customer
service
- Web site development skills a
plus
- Organized and highly detail
oriented
Hours and length of
commitment: Because of the depth of job training GSC
provides, internships require a 520 hour minimum commitment. You are expected to work 20 hours per week
during normal business hours. Thus, this internship works out to be
approximately six months. Interns may be
considered for a part-time position at the completion of the internship.
Compensation: A living expense
reimbursement of $125 per month plus $600 at the completion of the internship
commitment. Additionally, a 50% discount
on one of GSC's service-learning programs to Tanzania, Cambodia, or Thailand is
available upon successful completion of the 520 hour internship.

• Work closely with the Tanzania Country Director on various publications and proposals
• Post to new websites: social networking sites, college study abroad sites, travel sites, etc.
• Help oversee Google Analytics
• Prepare monthly electronic newsletters and other publications
• Assist the Executive Director in special projects in areas such as marketing, research, and journalism
• May assist in developing and preparing GSC's new website
Qualifications:
• PC computer skills: MS Word, WordPress, Access, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop, and In-Design
• Must have excellent writing/editing/graphic design skills
• Organized and
highly detailed oriented• Strong communication, customer service, and public relations skills
• Basic business administration and office skills (At least one year of experience working in an office setting is preferred)
• Social Networking know-how: Facebook, WordPress, YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, Pinterest
• Understanding of Google Analytics
• Website development skills a plus
• Bachelor's degree in related field
