Volunteer In-Country Orientation & Training
Global Service Corps believes that not only is it important to prepare those volunteering abroad for their GSC Service Program, it is also essential to prepare them for life in their new homes and communities while in Tanzania, Cambodia or Thailand. Depending on program type, GSC provides one or two-week in-country orientation and volunteer training sessions at the start of each or our volunteer or internship programs and the GSC SOS Fellowship Program includes a four-week orientation and training.

Community Training Programs
Global Service Corps from its inception has placed a high priority on providing opportunities for its program participants to support and work on sustainable and appropriate community development projects. GSC now provides specific training of trainers (TOT) training to all service-learning volunteers. This training prepares GSC service-learning program participants to provide trainings to our host communities in specific areas.

Local Counterparts: A Network of Support
There is no doubt that an experience volunteering abroad can be significantly enhanced by understanding the cultural and local traditions, lifestyles and needs through the eyes of someone living within the local community. GSC has developed a cadre of counterparts that are strongly committed to helping volunteers understand the cultural and technical aspects of their service project and integrate into the local community. GSC volunteers and their counterparts, whether a nurse at a hospital, a teacher at a school, or a college-bound translator at one of the day camps, build mutually beneficial and often long lasting bonds of friendship.

Homestays: Cultural Immersion
Every GSC volunteer has the opportunity to live with a local Thai or Tanzanian family and truly be integrated with their local community during an experience volunteering abroad with GSC. GSC places volunteers with hosts who enjoy learning about other cultures and appreciate the unique opportunity that hosting an international volunteer gives to their family. Host families have been carefully chosen by GSC and our partners, and many have hosted volunteers over the course of several years.
