Testimonials
"I'm sure when I ponder my life experiences, during the twilight of my years, I will regard my six weeks in Thailand as six of the most sensational weeks of my life... I traveled to Thailand hoping for an enriching experience. What I found exceeded my wildest expectations."

INTERNATIONAL HEALTH PROGRAM : THAILAND

The Thailand International Health Program gives volunteers a unique insight into the many facets of the Thai healthcare system including hospital organization, structure and administration. A minimum six week commitment is required for the International Health Program. In order to insure project sustainability and provide a significant contribution to the communities served, all program participants will serve a minimum of two weeks teaching as part of the HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention or Teach English Abroad Program. Volunteers also have the opportunity to shadow Thai doctors and nurses while observing examinations, surgeries, births, and the treatment of tropical diseases.

The International Health Long-term Program is mainly educational and observational as participants are unlikely to be able to read medical records or communicate directly with patients, restricting their involvement in direct patient care and clinical work. Legal restrictions in Thailand also prohibit untrained volunteers from patient care or clinical work.

A longer nine-week International Health Internship is also available for those seeking to either fulfill academic requirements, or to gain deeper knowledge and understanding of public health issues in emerging nations.

GSC International Health Program long-term volunteers are licensed health care professionals, such as doctors, nurses, or EMT's who can share their skills and knowledge by working directly with Thai physicians and nurses. Depending on the volunteer’s training and licensing, as well as the relationship developed with the hosting health professionals, long-term volunteers may be able to assist their hosts in their work.

***GSC is in the process of evaluating its International Health Program in order to better serve the community and provide a mutually beneficial experience for volunteers. Therefore, this program currently is not being offered in Thailand, but scheduled to resume in the Summer of 2009. Please check back with GSC early in 2009 for more details.
